Reflecting on the decision, Ennor admitted it was one made with mixed feelings. “This decision comes with a lot of emotions, I love this place and the people here, but I’m really excited for what’s next,” says Ennor.

Ennor first joined the Crusaders Academy in 2015 after relocating from Auckland on a scholarship. Arriving in Christchurch as an 18-year-old fresh out of school, he went on to establish himself as one of the club’s most dependable midfielders over the next ten years.

“I’ve done so much growing in this place, and I owe so much to the red and black jersey. I’ll always call this place home.”

Known as Crusader #217, Ennor has become a calming influence and an important voice in the backline. His rise through the ranks gathered pace with a standout season for Canterbury in 2017, which paved the way for his Crusaders debut the following year. By 2022, Ennor had reached the milestone of 50 appearances for the club, playing every match that season. He followed that up in 2023 by starting all but one game, underlining his importance to the side.

At international level, Ennor made his All Blacks debut in 2019 and has since earned nine Test caps. Beyond the milestones and achievements, it is the daily environment at the Crusaders that has left the biggest impression.

“To be able to call this a job and turning up to Rugby Park every week with my mates to go to work, it’s the best thing in the world.”

As he prepares to embark on a new chapter in France, Ennor remains deeply appreciative of what his time with the Crusaders has given him. “This is a chapter I’ll treasure for the rest of my life,” says Ennor.
