The former Scotland international, whose charity the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation has raised more than £5m for MND research, played with and against some of the best players of all-time.

The forward pack below is made up of players Doddie Weir singled out for praise in his autobiography.

George Graham (Scotland): Aggressive beyond belief, like a bulldog whose lost its bone then swallowed a Wasps trying to find it. He'd have been a nightmare to play against."

Keith Wood (Ireland): "Phenomenal as a teammate and a super tourer. As a person, for me, he epitomized the whole Lions ethos."

Jason Leonard (England): "He was always an absolute rock on the corner of the scrum. He did all the work in the scrum and I could just have a breather."

Simon Shaw (England): "I think he is one of the most underrated players in recent history. He had everything."
