Six Nations 2020 Round Two | Five biggest underperformers

This weekly “Biggest Underperformers” piece is dedicated to calling out players who didn't play as well as they can in the second round of the 2020 Six Nations.
As a rule, I avoid putting players on the list if they were injured during the game.
POLL:
1. Stuart Hogg (Scotland)
One lovely kick-return could not save a difficult day for Scotland’s captain. For the second weekend in a row, a big error cost his team. His mistake gave England the field position from which Ellis Genge scored. Conceded three turnovers in total.
2. George North (Wales)
Moved to his more usual position after last week’s experiment in the centre. Didn’t get a sniff of the ball for most of the first half until he came off his wing to look for work and should probably do that more often. Mostly anonymous as Wales lost to Ireland.
3. Sean Maitland (Scotland)
It wasn’t a day for wingers with Storm Ciara battering Murrayfield. However, three knock-ons and just one carry made this a nightmare performance from the experienced Scotland back.
4. Willi Heinz (England)
First Six Nations start at the age of 33 but no visible improvement on Ben Youngs. Two overhit kicks in the second half invited pressure onto England. Scrum-half starting to look a problem area for Eddie Jones' men.
5. Gael Fickou (France)
Gave away a penalty in the first half. He’s defensively sound but simply offered nothing in attack. We're not seeing the best of him at the moment.

- Jordie Barrett over Damian de Allende is far from being correct. The hype around Dupont is also overreaching, he's probably 4th in the world and has been since the 2023 WC. He also avoids certain matchups which is strange. The rest of the list is pretty good apart from minor subjective biases.JasonMarlow16-09-2026
