TRANSFER | Sale Sharks add another South African powerhouse to their ranks

Sale Sharks have reportedly signed South African forward Cobus Wiese for next season, according to Rugby Pass.

The former Junior Springbok had agreed to join Saracens and European champions next season but has had second thoughts following their relegation.

Wiese will now instead join Jono Ross, Faf de Klerk, Lood de Jager, Rohan Janse van Rensburg, Akker van der Merwe, Coenie Oosthuizen and Rob, Dan and Jean-Luc du Preez at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The Rugby Paper had reported that Sarries might look to block a move to the Premiership rival after the 22-year-old ripped up the long-term contract he’d previously signed.

Harlequins were also reportedly in the mix for the back-rower.

Sale Sharks transfers: 3 possible replacements for Rob Webber

Sale Sharks and England hooker Rob Webber has confirmed he will retire from professional rugby union at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old will call time on a 16-year career; in which he also played for Leeds Tykes, Wasps, and Bath.

This will leave Sale boss Steve Diamond short of hookers heading into the 2020/21 Gallagher Premiership season – so we’ve picked out three possible and available replacements.

1. Joe Gray

Replacing a Premiership stalwart who played for England with another seems to make perfect sense.

Gray, who has made well over 150 Premiership appearances, is set to leave Saracens in the summer and, at 31, still has plenty gas in the tank to make a considerable contribution at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Not the most exciting, but a solid choice.
