“Turgid rugby” – Fans fume with Steve Borthwick England’s tactics during latest defeat

England have come under fire as their ‘boring’ and ‘turgid’ rugby continued to turn fans off during their clash with Ireland in Dublin.

The opening 40 saw the man in white repeatedly kick the ball away, which led to some fans calling out Steve Borthwick and his ‘out of date’ tactics.

One fan wrote: “The worst coached England side I’ve seen since the early 80s. Absolutely clueless from Borthwick.”

A second commented: “Borthwick approach to rugby is at least 3 years out of date. Playing like Saracens did 3 seasons ago.”

Another said: “Has Borthwick instilled some fear in England of actually playing rugby? We’re kicking off every second phase – as the comms said, it all looks scripted and pre-meditated (and it’s a bad script)”

A fourth added: “The rugby on show is turgid to watch, the difference between us & Ireland is huge, first game for many of them, no handling errors, no ring rust, they’re full of life & want it.”

“Sack Borthwick after this game please,” exclaimed a fifth

Woodward among the favourites to replace Borthwick:

In the event that Borthwick is relieved of his duties after leading the nation to the 2023 Rugby World Cup, RUCK presents five potential coaches who could be considered as replacements.

5. Sir Clive Woodward – 20/1

Woodward is the World Cup winning Head Coach who led England’s rugby players to World Cup glory in Australia in 2003.

A former England International and British & Irish Lion himself, prior to his full time coaching career Clive established a successful business career working for nine years with Xerox in the UK and Australia before establishing his own small finance and leasing company.

During Clive’s tenure as Head Coach England moved from 6th in the world to being the number one ranked team, winning every trophy an England team can win.
