The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday in Palma, the capital of the Spanish island, during which Vunipola was allegedly Tasered by police in the early hours of the morning and subsequently charged with “resisting the law”.

While the police investigation has concluded, Vunipola’s club, Saracens, has stated they will handle the matter “internally”.

Vunipola himself has characterised the incident as an “unfortunate misunderstanding” and has pledged to cooperate fully with Saracens’ internal investigation. He refuted claims of violence or threats, asserting there was no altercation involving bottles or chairs.

“Contrary to media reports, there was no violence, no fight and I did not threaten anybody at any stage, with bottles or chairs or anything else,” Vunipola stated.

Vunipola has since paid the fine and issued an “unreserved apology” to those affected by the incident.

Despite initial doubts surrounding his proposed move to Montpellier, recent reports suggest such concerns have been dispelled.

“All is well,” revealed a source close to the French club, owned by billionaire Mohed Altrad. “No one in France is talking about it.”
