Wales’ international in ‘Dark Times’ with Achilles Injury and WRU Contract Issues

Wales and Cardiff centre Willis Halaholo has taken to Twitter, and shared his grievances with his current Achille’s injury. Halaholo is in a tough position due to his contract uncertainty, as the injured player is unable to receive offers from the WRU and Cardiff Blues, to feasibly support his family.

Halaholo said in a recent tweet that he is in “dark times at the moment.” The 32-year-old was returning to full fitness when he suffered the Achille’s injury in training, and will now be out of action for a number of months.

Whilst out on the sidelines, Halaholo states how he is not being offered playing contracts that can feed his family. The desperate times in the WRU have put players like Halaholo in such difficult positions, and he regrets his decision to stay in Wales.

Halaholo discusses his uncertain future, and believes that a move overseas is the only logical outcome. He posts about how he may have to move back to New Zealand, yet would regret not achieving 100 caps for the Cardiff Blues.

Halaholo arrived at the Welsh capital in 2016, after leaving the Hurricanes and making the move to the Northern Hemisphere. Halaholo quickly settled into live in Cardiff, and as mentioned, he has already achieved 97 caps for the Blues.

Qualifying to play for Wales through the residency laws, Halaholo made his full international debut in the 2021 Six Nations. Coming off the bench against Scotland after half an hour, Halaholo impressed from his first appearance in a red jersey.
