Will Greenwood picks bold England XV for Six Nations opener

England boss Eddie Jones is generally a coach who’s never been afraid of moving away from the tried and trusted – and the 2021 Six Nations is his opportunity to do that again, according to Will Greenwood.

Writing in the Telegraph, the 2003 WOrld Cup winner has selected the side he’d like to see go toe-to-toe with Scotland at Twickenham next weekend.

WILL GREENWOOD’S ENGLAND XV

BACK-THREE:

11. Paolo Odogwu, 14. Jonny May, 15. Anthony Watson

Greenwood said: ‘The three sprinters we have recently picked are beautiful “lane” runners, who can rip a team apart given space to stretch their legs. But Odogwu makes his own space, bumping, jostling and fighting all the way. He is hugely difficult to ground with a different set of height measurements to the other flyers. In short, he has proper wow factor.’

CENTRES:

12. Ollie Lawrence, 13 Henry Slade

Greenwood said: “Lawrence can beat players in small spaces, employing that dynamic hand-off to buy him a yard and draw defenders from outside his channel forward to stop him allowing his uber-confident offload to come into play.”
