England superstar Ellie Kildunne has revealed her biggest rugby ‘ick’ – and it’s something you’ll spot at training grounds everywhere.
The Red Roses flyer has become one of the most recognisable players in women’s rugby, with her pace, footwork and attacking ability making her a nightmare for defenders.
Kildunne has enjoyed a remarkable rise in recent years and recently signed for Bristol Bears after leaving Harlequins.
But away from matchday, there is one rugby tradition she simply cannot get behind.
And it has nothing to do with tackling, fitness sessions or spending hours in the gym.
It’s the socks.
Kildunne reveals rugby ‘ick’
When asked to name her biggest rugby training ‘ick’, Kildunne had an immediate answer.
“Wearing long socks for training,” she said.
The England star prefers the increasingly popular look of wearing socks lower down rather than pulling traditional rugby socks all the way up during training.
It's a small detail, but one plenty of modern players will probably understand.
Kildunne's admission also gives supporters another glimpse at the personality that has helped make her one of the biggest stars in the women’s game.

Red Roses superstar
Kildunne has developed into a key figure for England after making her senior international debut as a teenager.
Her performances have seen her become one of the first names on the Red Roses team sheet, capable of playing across the back three and producing something from almost nothing.
She was named World Rugby Women’s 15s Player of the Year in 2024 following a remarkable campaign.
Kildunne scored 14 tries in just 10 Tests during 2024 as England went unbeaten, winning the Women’s Six Nations and WXV 1.
Her success has continued since then. Kildunne scored her 50th international try during the 2026 Six Nations as England completed another Grand Slam.
She was subsequently included in RUCK’s 2026 Women’s Six Nations Team of the Tournament after another electric campaign.
Kildunne remains part of England’s contracted Red Roses group, with the latest squad announcement confirming her among the players retained for the new season.
Life away from rugby
Kildunne has interests beyond the pitch too.
Photography has become a major passion, with the England international regularly documenting life inside rugby from a different perspective.
Her profile away from the pitch has continued to grow, with Kildunne also receiving a second honorary doctorate in recognition of her achievements and contribution to women’s sport.
But whatever happens next in her career, don't expect to see Kildunne wandering around training with her socks pulled up to her knees.
