The former Wales captain went to Llandovery College and then Cardiff Medical School. Capped 13 times by Wales, five as skipper, before suffering a severe spinal cord injury playing for Cardiff against Swansea in December 1997 which ended his career. He recovered sufficiently to develop a career as a rugby critic on television before returning to his career as a doctor in Cardiff.Embed from Getty Images
