5 players Steve Borthwick should call-up after Scotland loss

#4. Raffi Quirke (Sale Sharks)

The Manchester born scrum half started playing rugby when he was just five, inspired by his father Saul, who coached him throughout those early years.

That evidently paid off, with Raffi part of a Broughton Park Rugby Club side that went unbeaten and scoffed 267 tries at U9s level.

Even in his youth Quirke was no stranger to elite competition having won the North-West Triathlon Championship at just 13-years-old. He gave up the sport shortly after to focus solely on rugby affairs and was rewarded for that endeavour, going on to represent England at both U16, U18 and U20 levels.

After signing for Sale in 2018 Raffi spent time honing his skills with help from teammate Faf De Klerk and it has clearly paid dividends.

His performances for club warranted a call up from Eddie Jones in September 2021 for the Autumn Internationals and he hasn’t looked back since.
