The 22-year-old, boasting 32 caps for his country, revealed that his decision to join the NFL international player pathway (IPP) was not taken lightly, describing it as a “painstaking” choice.

However, this move has not been universally embraced by the rugby community, with both fans and pundits questioning the wisdom behind Rees-Zammit’s transition.

While some skeptics doubt his chances of making a mark in the NFL, others go further, viewing this decision as a significant gamble and a negative reflection on the current state of rugby.

Amidst the criticism, outspoken rugby personality Andy Goode took to X on Tuesday night to challenge the naysayers, declaring, “Whoever thinks that Louis Rees-Zammit chasing his dream of playing in the NFL is a bad reflection on rugby needs to give their head a wobble!”

The former England star expressed his anticipation, saying, “Can’t wait to watch him follow his heart and take himself out of his comfort zone and try and crack the big time in the USA! Go smash it!”

Acknowledging the support, Rees-Zammit responded to Goode’s post, taking a swipe at his critics, stating, “Don’t get why people can’t just be happy that I’m chasing my dreams. But hey ho, life moves on and adds a bit of motivation.”

It seems the young winger is determined to forge a new path and rise to the challenges of his American football ambitions.
