Eddie Jones: Social media reacts to England bosses sacking

Eddie Jones miserable 2022 goes from bad to worse – and we’d recommend he swerves social media for a while after the RFU confirmed today that they had “parted company” with the England head coach.

Forwards coach Richard Cockerill will take over the running of the team on an interim basis.

Jones departs after a dismal year of results, with only five wins from 12 Tests in 2022.

The 62-year-old won three Six Nations titles in his seven years in charge and led the team to the 2019 World Cup final, which they lost to South Africa.

The RFU statement pulled no punches in announcing that Jones has been “dismissed”.

No “termination by mutual agreement”, “stepping down” or “leaving his role”, as so often in these types of announcements. He’s been “dismissed”.

Social media reaction:

Andy Goode wrote: “have sacked Eddie Jones, a big call that needs to be followed up with doing whatever they can to get Scott Robertson as the new head coach! Time to be brave Bill Sweeney and go get Razor.”

One fan wrote: “I’d lost faith in Eddie Jones’ plans but the next man in the job will have the same player pool, just hope they can do something in the 8 months…”

A second commented: “England sacking Eddie Jones now is like when Spurs sacked Jose before a final. Think it’s a ridiculous decision.:

Another said: “The fact that Eddie Jones has a 73% winning record, despite appearing to have lost so many games almost on purpose, is absolutely astonishing.”

Rugby Union Editor of The Roar, Christy Doran wrote: “The Wallabies and All Blacks will be rubbing their hands together they no longer will face an Eddie Jones-led English side.”

Former Wallabies back wrote: “If Eddie Jones gets sacked it would have to be the silliest thing they could do to the English rugby team. He plans & plans & plans years in advance for this competition. It’s the one competition that he has got consistently right time and time again. Big mistake imo.”

Popular YouTube Squidge wrote: “The stupidest decision someone in rugby makes this year will be ITV re-hiring Clive Woodward to be a pundit. The second stupidest will be Eddie Jones being fired by England nine months before the World Cup.:
