The Mail Online has reported that England tried in vain to bring back Andy Farrell as defence coach – two-and-a-half years after they sacked him.
The former dual-code international rejected their approach and offer to work with his son Owen once again, to stay with Ireland.
The RFU will soon announce that ex-All Blacks head coach John Mitchell is joining Eddie Jones’ set-up, to replace Paul Gustard, who stepped down from his post to take charge at Harlequins.
However, the Mail reported on Wednesday night that Farrell was the first choice to fill the void in the management team created by Gustard’s shock departure.
