“Facing a 35 point Premiership sanction” – Merger of two Premiership clubs suggested as financial woes worsen

Reports coming out of the Midlands has suggested that a merger of Worcester Warriors and Wasps was proposed last week by the current owners at Sixways.

Marcello Cossali-Francis, Sports Editor of the Worcester news, revealed on Twitter: “I have been informed that a merger of Worcester Warriors and Wasps was proposed last week by the owners at Sixways.

“The idea was instantly rejected by the Coventry-based club. Not sure supporters of either clubs would have backed the proposal.”

Worcester are facing a 35 point Premiership sanction for entering administration, while Wasps are currently being sued by Coventry City for the state of the pitch at the Ricoh arena.
