Northampton Saints confirm new contract for 19-year-old future England star

Since then, the England Under-20s international has gone on to make 15 senior appearances for Northampton, establishing himself within Saints’ matchday squads and continuing his development at the highest level.

“I didn’t expect to play quite as much as I did last season, coming straight in from the Academy. Stepping into a senior environment can be daunting, but everyone here – the older lads and the coaches – make it so easy for younger players to just be themselves.

“There’s also a proven track record of Academy success at this Club. Getting to work alongside players like Mitch [Alex Mitchell] and Archie [McParland], who’ve been on the same journey, is brilliant. They’re two of the best scrum-halves in the country and having the chance to learn from them every day benefits me massively.

“The vibe around the group is really good. Everyone comes into training with a smile on their face and we’re fighting for trophies, which is something I want to be a part of.

“Looking ahead, I just want to play as much rugby as I can – whether that’s on loan in a Bedford jersey or here at Saints. I know I’ve still got plenty of room to grow, so I want to keep learning from the people around me and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way.”

A product of Bedford School and former Royston RFC junior, Weimann began his rugby journey in Saracens’ Academy before leaving their youth ranks at the age of 16 to join Northampton Saints.

After putting pen to paper on his first professional deal, he became Saint #2098 in November 2024 when he made his competitive debut in the PREM Rugby Cup against Leicester Tigers.

His Gallagher PREM debut followed later that season, also against Leicester, and Weimann went on to earn two league starts – away at Exeter Chiefs and Gloucester Rugby. He marked his appearance at Kingsholm by scoring his first senior Northampton try.

On the international stage, Weimann has represented England throughout the age-grades. He featured in the Under-18s Six Nations Festival in March 2024, before progressing to the Under-20s squad the following year. He made his debut off the bench against Scotland in February 2025 and was subsequently selected for the World Rugby Under-20s Championship that summer.

This season, Weimann’s opportunities have been limited by a hamstring injury, but after featuring in Saints’ dramatic 35–33 victory over Saracens last weekend, he returned to England Under-20s’ camp last week ahead of their clash with Italy.
