Saracens supporters set for Christmas boost with arrival of British & Irish Lion

Earlier today, the PREM Rugby side shared an image of a player’s hand reaching out to catch a gift-wrapped rugby ball, accompanied by the message: "Come back tomorrow for some Christmas magic." Supporters quickly went into detective mode, tracing the original image and concluding that the player pictured was Williams.

Earlier this month, Gloucester confirmed that Williams would be leaving the club, with Saracens widely expected to be his next destination amid a busy transfer carousel in the Premiership.

Williams has been Gloucester’s standout performer since arriving in 2024, earning the Premiership Player of the Season award in June and captaining the side this campaign. His impending departure was confirmed in a club statement released just over a week ago, which read:

"Tomos Williams will depart Gloucester Rugby at the end of the 2025/26 season.

"After impressing at Kingsholm, Williams was offered a new deal to stay at the club beyond the end of the season, but has instead opted to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.

"The Welshman will depart with the best wishes of everyone at the club when the time comes, but in the meantime, is entirely dedicated to ending his time at Gloucester Rugby on a high."

A product of the Cardiff academy, Williams made his senior debut for the region in 2013 as a replacement against Munster. After several appearances from the bench, he earned his first start in a 23–13 win over Ulster.

His breakthrough season came in 2016–17, when he featured 30 times, scoring his first Cardiff try against Edinburgh on the opening weekend and later registering his first brace in an away defeat to Leinster.

In 2018, Williams crossed for a try in Cardiff’s Challenge Cup final victory over Gloucester — a score that was later voted Try of the Season.

On the international stage, Williams’ form was rewarded earlier this year when he was named in the British and Irish Lions squad for their 2025 tour of Australia. He marked the tour by scoring twice against the Western Force before a hamstring injury unfortunately ruled him out of the remainder of the trip.

If confirmed as expected on Christmas morning, his arrival at Saracens will be one of the most eye-catching moves of the season — and a festive boost for supporters at StoneX Stadium.
