"He didn't deliver" - 5 players who underperformed in round 3 of the Autumn Nations Series

#1. Sam Underhill (England)

RUCK: The Bath flanker has been unable to overcome his struggles domestically to hit top form for his country and departed early for the second week in a row after missing FOUR tackles. This move would see Tom Curry, who has not shone at number 8, refer back to his normal position on the flanker with Dombrandt taking the eight shirt. The Harlequins powerhouse made a significant impact off the bench, making more metres (35) in five minutes than Underhill did in 60.

RUCK: Starting ahead of fan favourite Hamish Watson, the number 8 who was being deployed on the flank needed a big performance and he didn't deliver. The 31-year-old, who made just two carries in his 52 minutes on the field, looked lost on the blindside, costing his side two turnovers and also managing to miss a game high five tackles. Gregor Townsend's decision to start him ahead of Watson proved to be as ridiculous as it sounded.

The Herald: "Found it tough against a dominant Boks back row."

RUCK: Described this week as 'undroppable', but the England captains inclusion in the team really did upset the balance with youngster Marcus Smith playing second fiddle and Manu Tuilagi looking lost out wide. His goal-kicking wasn't bad, but that was about the only positive from Farrell. Bringing Malins on the wing will give Jones' men better width as they look to unlock the Springbok defence next Saturday. Give Smith the keys already Eddie!

Rugby Pass 6/10: "Bringing up the tonne, Farrell linked up well alongside his understudy at stand-off, although the 20-year-old didn’t need much minding. Limped off with a ‘bang’ to the foot. Why does it feel like something still isn’t quite firing at the moment for Farrell?"

Irish Times 5/10: "Didn’t see any clean ball in the first half. Missed a pass to Barrett and threw another into touch late in the game."

Stuff 5/10: "Well contained by the Irish defence, and made some errors with ball in hand. Outplayed by Ireland’s Kiwi wing James Lowe, who was exceptional on the left-hand side."

RUCK: His wayward kicking from the tee ultimately cost his side as the Springboks edged clear. A few moments of magic, but as many if not more brainfarts from the Racing number 10.

Rugby Pass 5/10: "Some sublime touches in attack, including the cross-kick to put van der Merwe away for Hogg’s first try, and a lovely offload for the captain’s second. Missed eight points from the tee though."

The Herald: "Creativity was steadily annulled by a brutally effective Boks defence. Played a supporting role in Hogg’s second try but missed three of his five kicks at goal."
