Israel Folau contract ended after anti-gay social media post

Rugby Australia has issued Israel Folau a Code of Conduct breach notice “warranting termination of his employment contract” to which he has 48 hours to respond after his controversial social media post.

In a statement released on Monday, Rugby AU confirmed the breach notice, with Folau able to either accept or request a hearing.

“The Rugby Australia Integrity Unit deemed that Folau had committed a high-level breach of the Professional Players’ Code of Conduct warranting termination of his employment contract. Folau has 48 hours to accept the sanction or have the matter referred to a Code of Conduct hearing,” the statement read.

Rugby AU CEO Raelene Castle said in the statement Folau had been warned about his posts last year but failed to meet his agreed obligations.

“At its core, this is an issue of the responsibilities an employee owes to their employer and the commitments they make to their employer to abide by their employer’s policies and procedures and adhere to their employer’s values.

“Following the events of last year, Israel was warned formally and repeatedly about the expectations of him as player for the Wallabies and NSW Waratahs with regards to social media use and he has failed to meet those obligations.

“It was made clear to him that any social media posts or commentary that is in any way disrespectful to people because of their sexuality will result in disciplinary action.

“All professional Rugby players in Australia are bound by the Code of Conduct and there is a process in place for any disciplinary matter. We appreciate that this particular matter will attract significant interest, but due process must be followed.”

Obviously he has had some sort of mental health issue, be it brainwashing or something else. Should he not be given professional help like anyone else in and sport or industry.? His behavior is not normal there is something wrong. Has he been radicalized?

    He needs help.

I think the main concerns I have about this affair is that it has been turned into an anti gay thing, what about all the other groups he mentioned? There is also the issue of free speech, if it is applied to everyone, fine, but if not, there is something wrong.
