The Chiefs No 8 went off during the second half of Exeter’s thrilling 29-26 Gallagher Premiership victory over 14-man Northampton at Franklin’s Gardens. He had ice applied to his ankle.
“He won’t want to be cotton wool-wrapped for the Lions, and we don’t know the extent of the injury at all,” said Chiefs Director of Rugby Rob Baxter.
Chances of being ruled out: Low
Most likely replacement: Billy Vunipola (England)
The one Saracen whose lack of form in the Six Nations came back to haunt him, with Simmonds chosen ahead of him. It was a cruel blow for Vunipola after he missed out on the 2017 tour through injury, although not an enormous surprise.
