Mako Vunipola to miss Wales clash – prop is ‘self isolating’

Fears over the spread of coronavirus have ruled England’s Mako Vunipola out of Saturday’s Six Nations fixture against Wales.

The 29-year-old had just flown in from the South Pacific where he had been to for family reasons.

However, forwards coach Matt Proudfoot said on Tuesday: “Mako is not with us now. He has got a medical issue so he won’t be available for the weekend. It is just something medical, so he is out for the weekend.”

Quizzed on whether the 29-year-old would play any further part in the 2020 Six Nations, Proudfoot added: “We will take it week by week.”

The Saracens prop had been due to be train with the national squad in Bagshot but it is now self-isolating at home on the advice of team doctors due to him visiting Hong Kong on his way home.

He has now shown any symptoms at this moment in time.

It means Joe Marler and Ellis Genge will continue as Eddie Jones first and second choice loosehead prop at Twickenham this weekend.
