Argentina has formally launched its bid to host the 2035 Rugby World Cup, a tournament that has never been staged in South America. The event is set to reach the Americas for the first time in 2031, when it will be held in the United States.

The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) confirmed the announcement on Tuesday, outlining a potential joint bid in collaboration with Sudamericana Rugby and the national federations of Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. This regional approach could see multiple nations share hosting responsibilities.
World Rugby CEO Alan Gilpin is currently in Argentina and is expected to meet with UAR President Gabriel Travaglini to assess the feasibility of the proposal.
“The 2035 bid represents a federal objective and a legacy project that transcends our borders. Welcoming Alan Gilpin to advance this technical analysis is a fundamental step in demonstrating that the region is ready.
“We want a World Cup that reflects the passion and development that rugby has achieved in every corner of our territory,” Travaglini said in a statement.
Argentina will face strong competition, with Spain, Japan, and Italy also expressing interest, alongside a potential joint bid from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.
