“Didn’t Make the Cut” – Two Players Released from Steve Borthwick’s England Camp

England Head Coach Steve Borthwick has cut two players from his wider training squad, as preparations continue ahead of the 2023 Rugby World Cup warm-up fixtures this Summer.

Bath prop Beno Obano and new Harlequins signee Will Joseph have been let go from the group today.

Following these releases, the training group reduces from 38 to 36 players, yet is set to increase once the Saracens and Sale Sharks stars complete their mandatory five-week rest period following the Premiership Final.

It was also reported that Billy Vunipola underwent a ‘minor surgical procedure’ on his injured knee on Friday.

The back-rower will continue to recieve treatment at the England rugby rehabilitation facility, with hopes of making a match-fit recovery ahead of the Rugby World Cup.

The Saracens number eight was called up by Borthwick for the first time, following the shock self-withdrawl of Sam Simmonds. The soon-to-be Montpellier man voluntarily stood down from international duties, as he prepares for his move to the Top 14 next season.
