POSTPONED: Premiership Cup match off again

Bath has announced that their fixture against Gloucester Rugby will now be played tomorrow evening with a new kick-off time of 19:30.

“The rescheduling of matches is not something we take lightly as a Club and we are very sorry for the disappointment we know this will have caused. We understand that some of you will have travelled hundreds of miles to see us play on home turf. We know that birthdays and special occasions were due to be celebrated and we are very sorry that we’ve been unable to make this game happen during the same weekend,” commented Tarquin McDonald, Bath Rugby’s Chief Executive.

EDITORS PICKS:

The stands, ground and the majority of routes in and out of the stadium have all been cleared of snow and ice. However, temperatures yesterday were lower than forecast, plummeting to as low as -7 overnight. This impacted the thaw of the snow on the pitch, and importantly it also meant that the heated dome installed and operated by Sports Stadia Services became ineffective overnight.

Nigel Felton, Sports Stadia Services; “The Rec is unique when it comes to pitch management. The natural turf means the pitch has less durability, its proximity to the River Avon means the water table is high and the constrained nature of the site means that there is only one point of entry for vehicle movements. This coupled with over 500 tonnes of snow covering the pitch and freezing temperatures has meant that we’ve have been unable to get the playing surface match ready without causing substantial and long-lasting harm to the playing surface.”
