Josh Hodge departs Exeter Chiefs with immediate effect

Summer signing Josh Hodge will link up with Newcastle Red Bulls ahead of schedule, with the full-back completing an immediate move from Exeter Chiefs.

The 25-year-old, who has also featured for England A, had originally been set to arrive in July on a three-year deal. However, following talks between the two clubs, Hodge will now return to his former side in time for the run-in.

Red Bulls sporting general manager Neil McIlroy welcomed the early switch and highlighted its importance for the remainder of the campaign.

“We would like to thank Exeter Chiefs for their co-operation in enabling Josh to join us early,” said McIlroy,.

“He is a quality player who will enhance our playing options between now and the end of the season.

“As much as we are building for the longer term we are also fully committed to finishing the current season strongly, and bringing Josh here three months early is further demonstration of that.”

Hodge is equally eager to get going after sealing his move north.

“I’m really excited to be joining Newcastle Red Bulls at this stage in the season,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and building towards a strong end to the campaign.
“I’m ready to hit the ground running and set the tone for what we want to achieve next season.”
