RFU issue statement in response to 'dishonest' claims from Monye and Warburton

The RFU chief has now acknowledged that England's Six Nations campaign fell below expectations.

"The feelings were genuine. Really disappointed, massively frustrated. Should we have said that more up front on Saturday? Yes, probably, recognising fans' disappointment as well.

"We are all, as an organisation and to a person, incredibly disappointed with what happened this year in the Six Nations.

"You'd expect more from England and we demand more in terms of our results and our performances. Our emotions have been running very high. It still feels quite raw.

"Winning two this year compared to winning two last year is not progress and that's a fair criticism. But in terms of how we feel the team is progressing and how it's developing, in the context of where we want to get to, we feel we're heading in the right direction, hence we were OK with that statement."

Replacement: Owen Farrell

Initially left out and relatively unused during the 2022 Six Nations, it appears that the international career of the Leicester Tigers fly-half is all but over. England captain Farrell will likely take his place in the squad for the three-match series against the Wallabies though he may line-up at 12 with Marcus Smith retaining the fly-half position.

Replacement: Jonny Hill

Following the Bath man's record-breaking red card after just 82 seconds, which came after several other disappointing displays, it seems likely that Jonny Hill will come straight back into the squad. The Exeter Chiefs man had gone well in the Autumn before his injury.

Replacement: Alfie Barbeary

Jones was critical of Simmonds before the Six Nations, and the Exeter man did little to cement himself in the squad with his performances. It would be no shock to see him kicked o the curb with in-form Wasps number 8 Alfie Barbeary coming in for the first of many caps.

Replacement: Manu Tuilagi

Jones clearly doesn't fancy the Gloucester powerhouse with Tuilagi, if he can remain fit, more than likely coming straight back into the fold.

Replacement: Raffi Quirke

It's unlikely that the scrum-half will travel to Australia due to personal reasons after he pulled out of the 2021 Lions tour. As a result, it would be great to get a better look at exciting playmaker Raffi Quirke following his impressive cameo appearances during the Autumn Nations Series.
