REPORTS | Harlequins Marcus Smith offered huge contract to stay

England hopeful Marcus Smith has been offered a new and improved contract by Harlequins, according to the Mail on Sunday.
The No 10 has an exit clause in his contract and has been linked with a move to Bath, but Quins are desperate to keep hold of the playmaker.
According to Midi Olympique, Smith turned down a big offer from Lyon last week, who have since turned their attentions to other targets including Munster’s JJ Hanrahan.
Smith, who was made the highest-paid teenager of all-time when he was handed a £230,000 per season contract in 2018, is thought to be looking to double his salary.
Quins are reportedly ready to use the money saved from letting Chris Ashton and Mike Brown, who is expected to join Newcastle Falcons, leave the club to fund the new contract for the 21-year-old.

1. Piers O'Conor (Bristol Bears)
It’s difficult to describe a player’s performance as perfect, but the centres display against Bath on Friday night may be as near to it as you may get. Since joining the Bears O’Conor is often an unsung hero, with international talent surrounding him but he showed that he can match those international performances, beating eight defenders and making 88 metres.
2. Sam Simmonds (Exeter Chiefs)
The talented number 8 was as ever dominant in attack, with the number eight making 50 metres in attack across thirteen carries, including an outstanding break to set-up Ian Whitten’s try, completed with a brilliant instinctive offload.
3. Marcus Smith (Harlequins)
Inspired by the fly-half, who finished with 17 points, Quins ruthlessly dismantled last season’s finalists in a manner that left you wondering why they cannot perform like this every week. Smith comfortably outshone his opposite man in Jacob Umaga – another young No 10.
4. Alex Dombrandt (Harlequins)
Another dominant performance from the powerhouse back-rower against Wasps. There’s been a lot of talk about Sam Simmonds internationals credentials recently so it was nice to see the another potential heir to Billy Vunipola’s number 8 throne make his claim. A berserker of a man and a hell of a rugby player.
5. Andy Uren (Bristol Bears)
The 24-year old had the upper hand over his opposite number Ben Spencer and he showed exceptional vision to spot the gap before showing scintillating footwork to cross for a well deserved try. As well as his try, Uren also marshalled his back-line and maintained the games tempo to a level that blew Bath away.
