RUMOURS | Exeter Chiefs eye Gareth Steenson replacement from Premiership rivals

Exeter Chiefs are ready to table a big bid to bring in an exciting new fly-half for the 2020/21 Gallagher Premiership season, according to The Rugby Paper.

England U20 star Max Malins, who is out of contract at the end of the 2019/20 season, wants an improved deal to the one that’s on the table currently.

However, the reigning Premiership champions, who are already under investigation for a matter related to the salary cap, are struggling to improve upon their current offer.

Exeter Chiefs boss Rob Baxter, who still heavily relies upon 35-year-old Gareth Steenson, sees Malins as the ideal replacement to take his team forward, according to rugby rumour expert Neil Fissler.

He’s also suggested that Gloucester may be in the hunt when teams are allowed to talk to players coming to the end of their contracts on January 1st.
