Scotland player ratings vs Wales: Who shone and who flopped in Cardiff?

Scotland player ratings vs Wales: Who shone and who flopped in Cardiff?

8 Cornell du Preez: Didn’t provide the ballast Scotland would have been looking for. Failed to make a first-half carry and was substituted almost immediately after the second half began. Very poor. 4/10

7 Hamish Watson: Comfortably Scotland’s best. Watson was probably unfortunate not to be involved in the British and Irish Lions tour and this was a good performance on the back foot. 7/10

6 John Barclay (c): Quiet first half and coughed up a penalty at the start of the second which allowed Halfpenny to extend the Welsh lead. 5/10

5 Jonny Gray: Made an excellent early break but the lineout was a shambles. Was also outfought in the engine room by his opposite number. 4.5/10

4 Ben Toolis: One turnover was the highlight of a display where he never got near the heights reached by Wales’ locks. Alun Wyn Jones and Cory Hill. 5/10

3 Jon Welsh:  Held up the scrum reasonably well to his credit and did not look off the pace, despite being out of the international scene for a while. 6/10

2 Stuart McInally: Not straight with a first-half line-out and didn’t have much to cheer about on the whole. Like his team, he’ll want to forget this one and quickly. 5/10

1 Gordon Reid: Like Welsh, did help the scrum hold firm but he is not the most potent carrier and was replaced by James Bhatti after 48 minutes. 5.5/10
