Sky News forced to apologise after wrongly reporting ex-Exeter player was charged with the rape of young girl
A recent article from Sky News Australia stated that former Exeter Chief lock Peter Kimlin was charged with the rape of a 21-year-old girl in France.
The 31-year-old was taken into custody today with five teammates from his French Top 14 rugby side Grenoble.
Kimlin had indicated he was not at the centre of investigations and his involvement with police was to help establish a timeline of events, spending some hours in custody.
He was later released without charge.
Sky News how now issued an apology, stating: “That statement was incorrect.
“We acknowledge that Peter Kimlin was never arrested or charged with rape or any other offence in France.
“Sky News unreservedly apologises to Peter Kimlin for the harm and distress caused to him and his family by the article.”
