5 Springbok Hopefuls who Impressed in URC Round 1

The opening round of the 2026/27 United Rugby Championship provided an early glimpse of several South African players looking to make their mark on the competition.

Here are five Springboks hopefuls who caught the eye in Round 1, that could be worth watching as the season develops.

Luan Gilliomee made an immediate impression as the Sharks opened their campaign with a 41-24 victory over Ospreys in Durban.

The young fullback scored twice, showing his pace and attacking instincts as the Sharks built control of the contest.
