SQUAD UPDATE | England recall forward due to injury worry

England are facing escalating problems at prop after Beno Obano was called into Eddie Jones’s training squad ahead of Sunday’s Six Nations clash with Ireland.

The loosehead has been summoned to the team’s base in Surrey as cover for either Joe Marler or Ellis Genge.

However, Eddie Jones is refusing to specify which prop has become a doubt for the Twickenham showdown.

“Beno’s on the freight train, just in as a bit of cover. As I said we’ve got a few niggles so we just needed an extra prop in there,” Jones said.

Here is everything you need to know about the 25-year-old prop.

1. Starting out

Loosehead prop Obano joined the Bath Academy in August 2014. A former student of Dulwich College, the dynamic Obano made 19 appearances for Bath Rugby in a breakthrough 2016/17 campaign.

2. BULK

He’s an absolute unit. The powerhouse weighs an impressive 18st 13lb (120kg)

3. First call-ups

In December 2017, Obano received his first England call up for the 34 man Six Nations training squad, but didn’t play. He was then called up for the Summer tour to South Africa in 2018 but was injured during camp. He did play against Barbarians in summer 2019, but this was a none-cap game.
