Statement: England and Saracens star banned for foul language

Saracens have confirmed that England star Poppy Cleall has been handed a two-match suspension following an incident during the match against Leicester Tigers Women.

On March 5, 2024, Cleall appeared before an independent disciplinary panel under RFU Rule 5.12 for conduct prejudicial to the interests of the game.

The disciplinary hearing pertained to an incident during Saracens’ match against Leicester Tigers on March 3. Cleall acknowledged her use of inappropriate language, admitting that although it was unintentional, the referee could have interpreted it as directed towards them.

As a result, Cleall has been banned for two weeks and will be unavailable for the upcoming matches against Bristol Bears on March 10 and Italy on March 24.

She reportedly said to the match official: “That’s a f***ing high tackle,”
