Stephen Borthwick suggests Lions changes

<British & Irish Lions forwards coach Steve Borthwick has suggested that changes could be in the offing for the second Test against the All Blacks in Wellington on Saturday.

Warren Gatland’s men lost their opening clash with New Zealand 30-15 on Saturday in Auckland, with them very much second best across the field in a number of key areas of the game.

Most notable was the amount of missed tackles from the Lions, with the All Blacks dominating the contact area all over the field.

That lack of physicality, especially in the forwards, was particularly frustrating to the forwards who had earlier seen his pack impress against both the Crusaders and the Maori All Blacks the two previous Saturday’s.

Talks of changes to the side has been mentioned, with both Courtney Lawes and Maro Itoje suggested and the former England lock admits there are likely to be alterations made ahead of Saturday’s clash in Wellington.

“Clearly, we lost too many contacts,” he said.

“That happened and we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. That needs to change this weekend. There will be changes in how things are done tactically, I’m sure.”
