The inspiring message George North’s future father-in-law sent him at half-time against France

George North’s future father-in-law messaged him at half-time of Wales’ clash with France, playfully threatening not to give away his daughter at the couple’s wedding before the Rugby World Cup.

Rio Olympics cycling double silver medallist and twice world track champion Becky James and North tie the knot on June 8.

The winger had a tough time during the opening 40 of Wales’ Six Nations opener with France in rain-lashed Paris, with a lapse in defence that had allowed opponent Yoann Huget to score a try.

But 26-year-old North made amends with two tries as Wales fought back from a 16-point deficit for a remarkable 24-19 triumph.

The dramatic turnaround in fortunes led to Becky’s father Dai James quipping on Twitter: “Not that long ago I was thinking I might have to cancel giving my daughter away on June 8th… my text at half-time must have made all the difference.”

Welsh Cycling responded by tweeting: “Collectively, as a nation, we thank you for sending that text.”
