“They’d score a lot of tries” – Who would make a dream Team GB rugby sevens lineup for Tokyo 2020?


Although many will be excited about the British & Irish Lions this summer, fans do also have the Olympics to look forward to for their rugby fix.

We’ve picked our ultimate Team GB Sevens team that would definitely win gold at the 2021 Olympic games in Japan. Players who have been selected the Lions were not considered.

The men’s rugby 7s teams will play across the first three days (25-27 July 2021) with the finals set for Wednesday, July 28 2021.

Ajinomoto Stadium (Tokyo Stadium) will host the sevens rugby games. The venue was also used during Rugby World Cup 2019 for eight games including the tournament opener and the Bronze Final. The capacity is near to 50,000.

TEAMS WHO HAVE QUALIFIED: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Fiji, Great Britain, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, South Africa, USA, Korea.

BACKS:

Jonny May (England): A prolific and pacey finisher, he has reached 29 Test tries. Despite his club ’s poor results, May also scored a total of 30 for Leicester over just 44 matches in Premiership and European competition.

Jacob Stockdale (Northern Ireland): He burst on to the international scene a few seasons ago and hasn’t looked back. To date he has scored 16 tries in his 26 Ireland appearances.
