“Wasps Nest Stadium” Wasps Plan for 24,000 Seat Ground and Premiership Return in 2025/26 Season

Wasps are reportedly looking to build a new home, with plans for a 24,000 capacity stadium on the horizon. Wasps’ survived the perils of last October’s administration, and will be playing in the RFU Championship for next year’s campaign.

The Guardian reported how the Coventry side are planning to build their new ground, which has the prototype name of ‘Wasps Nest Stadium’. The venue is expected to be ready to open it’s doors for the 2027/28 season, and is reportedly set to include a ‘hotel, conference facilities and community leisure opportunities.’

Wasps will be returning to action after their prolonged absence, following their removal from the Gallagher Premiership last Autumn. They will be flying their new motto ‘stung, but resilient’ high for their next campaign, as they look to bounce back up into the top flight of English rugby.

It has been reported that Wasps current training ground in Henley-in-Arden, could be their home for the 2023/24 RFU Championship season. After entering administration, the Black and Yellows lost their star players with the likes of Jack and Tom Willis, Jacob Umaga, Paolo Odogwu and Josh Bassett all finding new homes for the rest of this season.

Wasps are ambitious for a quick return to the Premiership, and look to have the plans in place for a dramatic return at the end of next season.

3 players Wasps should target:

#1. Joe Simpson

The recently retired scrum-half hung up his boots recently, but has been tempted out of retirement to play for his boyhood club Old Priorians.

Some reports suggest this is the playmaker keeping himself in good shape to rejoin Wasps in the Championship next season.

Simpson – who made 230 appearances for Wasps in the Premiership (along with spells for Gloucester, Bath and Sale) and played for England at the 2011 World Cup – retired from the professional game in December 2022 and follows his brother Michael in pulling on the OPs shirt.

Looking ahead to his debut, Simpson told the club website: “‘It’s great to be back playing at Perivale – St Benedict’s was a big part of my life and I’m looking forward to having a run out with some of the lads I’ve grown up with.’

Likelihood: 7/10
