Bristol Bears could reportedly switch their attention to Leicester captain Ellis Genge if they miss out on Saracens loosehead Mako Vunipola, according to The Rugby Paper.
TRP, who linked Vunipola with a move to Ashton Gate just last week, saw their report labelled ‘wide of the mark’ by The Telegraph.
They instead said Saracens have made the 31-year-old an offer to stay, but it’s thought to be considerably less than his current deal. Both reports agree that he is out of contract at the end of the season and has been attracting interest from France.
It’s also common knowledge that Pat Lam is very keen on strengthening his front row options’ with John Afoa set to hang up his boots next summer.
Bristol-born Genge, who this week tested positive for Covid ahead of England’s match with Australia, is also in the final year of his deal with the Tigers.
Interestingly, the 26-year-old started his career with the Bears and has said he’d like to rejoin his hometown club before the end of his playing days.
