In a dominant performance, Johnny Sexton marked his return to the Ireland lineup with a pair of tries, propelling his team to a commanding 74-point victory over Romania. In the process, Sexton surpassed Ronan O’Gara as the leading Irish points scorer in World Cup history, amassing a total of 102 World Cup points.
Romania initially caught everyone by surprise when Hinckley Vaovasa’s spectacular run set up Gabriel Rupanu for an early score.
However, Ireland quickly asserted their control over the match with tries from Jamison Gibson-Park, Hugo Keenan, and Tadgh Beirne, leaving them in a commanding position by the midpoint of the first half.
Bundee Aki and Johnny Sexton continued to shine, both notching tries in both halves. As the game progressed, the Irish onslaught continued, with Rob Herring, Joseph McCarthy, and Peter O’Mahony finding the try zone twice in the second half, causing Romania’s defense to crumble under the relentless pressure.
