Israel Folau’s younger brother has just secured his move to rugby union

John Folau, the younger brother of Wallabies superstar Israel, has left rugby league and joined the Sydney Rays in the National Rugby Championship.

No Super Rugby contract has been promised. But the NRC shapes as the perfect setting to show what he’s capable of producing on a rugby field, particularly as his new coach at the Rays, former Wallaby Chris Whitaker, will be the Waratahs’ attack coach in 2019.

Like his dual international brother, Folau junior is physically striking. At 1.93m, Folau is the same height as his brother — the only player in Australian history to win the John Eales Medal three times.

But at 112kg, he is 10kgs heavier than his older brother.

The Rays get their NRC campaign underway against Canberra Vikings at Concord Oval on Saturday.
