“Major blow” – Two more Exeter Chiefs players set to depart the club

Exeter Chiefs’ director of rugby, Rob Baxter, is anticipating additional departures from Sandy Park at the conclusion of this season, with Jonny Gray and Tom Hendrickson poised to leave.

As reported by The Rugby Paper, Jonny Gray, the Scottish second row, who joined the Chiefs from Glasgow Warriors three years ago, is currently engaged in advanced discussions with Bordeaux Begles.

The move, initially hinted at by TRP and now verified by L’Equipe, reflects an ongoing trend this season, wherein UK-based players are enticed to France by lucrative deals that Gallagher Premiership teams find challenging to match.

Gray’s move to the French club follows the earlier transfers of Ben White and Blair Kinghorn to Toulon and Toulouse, respectively.

Despite being just 21 years old, Gray assumed the captaincy of Glasgow Warriors in November 2015, succeeding his recently retired mentor, Alastair Kellock.

In January 2020, it was officially announced that Gray would join the Chiefs, joining forces with his Scotland teammates Stuart Hogg, Sam Skinner, and Sam Hidalgo-Clyne.
