Five international rugby legends you didn't realise are still playing

A number of veteran players are proving that age is just a number as they continue to play professionally into their late 30s and early 40s including a former England captain.

#1. Matt Giteau

Age: 39
Club: LA Giltinis (USA)
Position: Centre, Scrum-half, Fly-half
Honours: Australia
Caps: 103 caps

The Wallabies legend has shelved retirement plans and will play on for the Los Angeles Giltinis as a 39-year-old.

“I was really content with the way things finished. It was such a super season to end up with a championship,” Giteau, who debuted for the Brumbies in 2001, said.

“My wife Bianca has changed her life to suit me many times but when she was keen and the kids were pumped for more of LA, it made the decision an easy one.”

#2. Dominic Day

Age: 36
Club: Malahide (Ireland)
Position: Second-row
Honours: Wales
Caps: 3 caps

The Wales international has come out of retirement in Ireland and is playing at grassroots level for Malahide nearly two years after he quit Saracens in November 2019 due to a knee injury in order to concentrate on business interests.

#3. Ben Foden

Age: 36
Club: New York (USA), Chester (England)
Position: Second-row
Honours: England
Caps: 34 caps

A Chester-born sportsman,the former England star is currently a rugby union player for Rugby United New York (RUNY) in Major League Rugby (MLR). He also has appeared for his local team Chester in National 2 North on a handful of occasions in the last few years.

#4. Chris Robshaw

Age: 35
Club: San Diego Legion (USA)
Position: Back-row
Honours: England
Caps: 66 caps

The former England captain is still playing with San Diego Legion for the 2022 MLR season. Robshaw’s first season with the team was curtailed by injury, as the flanker dislocated his shoulder twice within the span of his first three games.

#5. Gavin Henson

Club: West Wales Raiders (Wales - Rugby League)
Position: Centre
Honours: Wales & Lions
Caps: 66 & 1 caps

The Wales legend could realise his dream of playing in a Rugby World Cup after unexpectedly switching to rugby league. The former union icon, released by the Dragons at the end of the 2018-19 season, has joined 13-a-side club West Wales Raiders.
