Louis Lynagh could play for Australia against England after being dropped by Eddie Jones

The 20-year-old, who is the son of Wallabies legend Michael, was selected in an extended training group for the first time in September but was then jettisoned when Eddie Jones reduced his group for the Tests at Twickenham to 34 players.

Lynagh was then recalled by England last week after the Wallabies expressed an interest in securing his national allegiance. However, he pulled out of preparations for the 69-3 win over Tonga on Saturday with a minor injury.

And now, his international future has again been thrown into the air after he was dropped from the squad to face the Wallabies on Saturday.

Therefore, the winger, who has been repeatedly messed around by Jones, could actually pull on the gold jersey this weekend if he wanted.

Despite his fantastic recent form during the 2020/21 Premiership season, Lynagh was surprisingly left out of the England squad for the summer tests back in June with his famous Dad revealing at that point he’d had no communication with the head coach.

He wrote on Twitter: “Qualified for England, Australia and Italy.

“Italy and Australia have contacted him within the last fortnight. The RFU and England have NEVER spoken to him about his intentions and goals

“This is not about selection. There is supposed to be a ‘pathway’. How many young talented English kids are in the same boat?

“I am sure Louis has his goals and dreams – you will have to ask him. But my point is how many talented kids live and play in this country, who have represented this nation in age group rugby and are not being encourage and nurtured or even spoken to?

“Communication, feedback and encouragement. This is so important to young aspiring 16,17, 18…20 year olds.”

His dad, Elisi Vunipola, played in Super Rugby for the Brumbies, as well as appearing 41 times for Tonga – including at the 1995 and 1999 Rugby World Cups – and was his country’s most-capped player upon retirement in 2005.

Dhyreille Jonah Lomu, who currently plays on the wing, was born in France during his Dad's brief stint playing for Marseille, hence any eligibility discussions wouldn't be an issue.

Known as 'Frenchie' at school in New Zealand, the aspiring youngster has already began to impress at a number of age-grade tournaments in New Zealand.

The surname Umaga carries a lot of weight in rugby. Mike Umaga won 13 caps for Samoa, while Tana is one of the All Blacks’ most respected captains. And it appears the name could live on with Jacob, son of Mike and nephew of Tana, who is seen as one for the future for England after being called up on multiple occasions by Eddie Jones.
