Sam Warburton retains Wales captaincy for autumn internationals

  • Sam Warburton will captain Wales’s autumn internationals in November
  • The men in red will play against Australia, Argentina, Japan and South Africa
  • The Cardiff Blues flanker has led Wales more than any other player
Sam Warburton will once again lead Wales after interim head coach Rob Howley confirmed the flanker will lead the side during the Autumn internationals.

No player has captained Wales more times than the 27-year-old Warburton, who also led the British and Irish Lions in Australia back in 2013.

VOTE: Who should be the next British & Irish Lions captain?

Wales are set to take on Australia, Argentina, Japan and South Africa this November, when Warburton add to his tally of 69 Test caps, of which 67 have been for his country.

“Sam Warburton is a great captain,” Howley said.

“He captained the Lions, he will continue to captain Wales. I have spoken to Sam already, and he will captain us for the autumn series and into the Six Nations.

“I believe at this moment in time that Sam Warburton is the best captain to take us forward.

“He has, of course, done it (led the Lions) once, and I am sure he is in other people’s thoughts to captain again, but the challenge for all players will be the autumn series and the Six Nations.”
