A rugby player jailed for attempted rape will be deported to Fiji from New Zealand when released on parole next month.
Mid Canterbury player Kolinio Yabia Tamanitoakula, 26, was jailed last year for three years, four months and two weeks after pleading guilty to a charge of assault with intent to commit sexual violation.
He attacked a woman in the Gisborne CBD the morning after Tamanitoakula’s Ashburton-based team played East Coast in Ruatoria.
Tamanitoakula appeared before the parole board at Hawke’s Bay Prison earlier this month, having served just over a year in prison.
