“Swapping the StoneX for Swansea” – Hooker Ethan Lewis Leaves Saracens in Ospreys Move

Ospreys have confirmed the signing of Welsh hooker Ethan Lewis. The 29-year-old heads home to Wales after finishing the 2022/23 season at the top of the Gallagher Premiership with Saracens.

The former Cardiff hooker has agreed a move back to his home nation, after spending two years contracted at Sarries. Overall, Lewis has been apart of the North London side for three seasons, with his first venture to the English capital being on loan from Cardiff in 2020.

Throughout his time with the Men in Black Lewis made over 25 appearances, with 14 caps coming in the Premiership. Despite not yet making his full test debut for Warren Gatland’s side, Lewis has gained international recognition as apart of the Wales U20s set-up.

Lewis returns to South Wales with this move to the Ospreys, having made over 60 previous appearances for Cardiff Blues from 2015-2020.

Speaking on his move, Lewis said to the Ospreys:

“It’s great to be back in Wales with the Ospreys. I’ve really improved my game in my time at the Saracens, which I’m truly grateful for. But now it’s time for me to embrace a new challenge and further my development with the Ospreys.

“There’s some big competition and quality in every position here, especially in the hooker role, and I’m looking forward to getting started. I can’t wait to pull on the Ospreys jersey and to hopefully help the team achieve its ambitions.”

Head coach, Toby Booth added: “Ethan adds some much-needed depth at the hooker role for us and we know he can make a positive contribution with his quality.

“He’s improved a lot during his time with the Saracens and we’re hoping he can bring those experiences here and pass on some of that knowledge to our younger players coming up.”
