“True colours” – Ellis Genge slammed for behaviour after full-time

England prop and Leicester Tigers prop Ellis Genge has been branded a ‘sore loser’ after he lost his head at full-time against Harlequins.

Auins took a big step towards the play-offs after inflicting just a fourth defeat this season on the league-leaders in an entertaining game.

Jasper Wiese’s try edged Tigers into a 17-15 lead shortly before the hour, but Quins kept going and Andre Esterhuizen scored the decisive try with six minutes remaining to secure a 26-20 win.

In our opinion Genge is just showing the sort of passion you’d want from a captain. However, not everybody agrees.

SOCIAL REACTION:

One fan wrote: “Genge never joined the team making the tunnel; he berated the officials and Quins instead. It was evident to see Steve Borthwick walk him away as he was losing it. It was totally evident to see.”

Another added: “Ellis Genge wouldn’t be lost on a football pitch with all this bitching and moaning hes doing towards the ref.”

The prop was also criticised by former England hooker Brian Moore for his conversations with referee Wayne Barnes throughout the game.

He wrote: “At one point in the game both Ellis Genge and Dan Cole were berating one of Barnes’ assistant referees whilst they were warming up as substitutes in the in-goal area. They were obviously disagreeing with Barnes’ decision that held the Tigers’ front row as being responsible for a collapsed scrum.

“Whilst both those players have broad knowledge of the scrum, neither should be allowed to engage with any official until they are actually playing on the pitch and even then, they should only do so in an appropriate manner.”
