Here’s the latest on the possible return of Martin Johnson to Leicester Tigers
Leicester’s latest salvage operation will not involve Martin Johnson.
The club icon and World Cup-winning England captain remains resolute in his desire to stay out of professional rugby coaching.
The prospect of the formidable ex-Lions skipper returning to Welford Road as a director of rugby, to save the day, was one of the scenarios doing the rounds in light of Matt O’Connor’s dismissal as head coach, one game into the new season.
But the Mail Online has reported tonight that the fairytale for many Tigers fans is a non-starter. Johnson is not thought to have any interest in emerging from his exile.
The article goes on to say he is content to undertake commercial work and spend more time with his family. A job at the sharp end of the domestic game does not appeal.
