Premiership side offer Danny Cipriani short-term deal

Newcastle Falcons are reportedly ready to offer Danny Cipriani a deal to the end of the season following his sudden exit from Gloucester.

According to RUCK sources, Dean Richards, who is close to signing Harlequins star Mike Brown for next season, has reportedly made contact with the mercurial fly-halves representatives.

Danny Cipriani, who has Trinidad and Tobago roots, quit his Premiership club Gloucester on December 15 after playing only one game in the new season.

With the Falcons winning five of their first six games back in the Premiership, the men in black are reportedly keen to recruit the 33-year-old as a ‘senior figure who can maintain the Falcons healthy progress.’

However, Cipriani, is in no rush to make any move as he enjoys quality family time following what’s been a tough 12 months in his personal life.

Cipriani, who has played 15 times for England, won the 2019 Premiership and Rugby Players Association Player of the Season awards.

His former England team-mate Chris Ashton, who has also been linked with the Falcons, believes that Cipriani should be given more credit for his achievements in Rugby.

“He’s been an amazing player, done so much for English rugby, and doesn’t get enough plaudits for what he’s contributed. I just think he’s looking for something different,” Ashton said.

“Cipriani is the only English number 10 of the past 20 years who, if I’d been coach and he had been up for selection at the same time as Jonny, could have caused big selection headaches.

“The Sale man’s skill-set is so complete. He poses an attacking threat with ball in hand and has a superb kicking game and world-class distribution. I think Wilkinson would have got the nod over him in the end but the fact I even mention them in the same breath shows how highly I rate Cipriani.”
