Leicester Tigers fan favourite agrees contract extension

Leicester Tigers have announced that Telusa Veainu has agreed on a contract extension at the club.

The Tongan international has followed Mike Williams and Greg Bateman, who also signed new deals this morning.

He has been in eye-catching form this season, scoring five tries in eight appearances for Tigers, in his third year with the club.

The 26-year-old said: “I’m very settled here in Leicester, it’s my home away from home so it was an easy decision to make. I want to win and I play my best rugby here.

“The boys are like family to me and the fans are loyal. I love playing at Welford Road – and I couldn’t leave Ellis Genge on his own!”

Following playing spells in New Zealand and Australia, Veainu joined Tigers after playing for Tonga in the 2015 Rugby World Cup and has scored 23 tries in 48 appearances for the club.

Tigers head coach Matt O’Connor said: “Telusa has been in outstanding form and is a key player for us. He’s a popular guy in the squad, he works very hard and he is still improving as a player.

“We have some top-class players in our backline and Telusa is central to that.”
